What Tournament Bracket Generator Does

This bracket generator builds a single-elimination tournament bracket for 2 to 64 teams or players in one click. Enter the entrants in seed order and it places them in the standard seeding pattern — 1 against the lowest seed, 2 in the opposite half — so the strongest entrants can only meet late in the tournament. When the number of entrants is not a power of two, the top seeds receive first-round byes.

Click the winner of each match to move them forward; the rounds fill in through to the champion. Changing an earlier result automatically clears any later picks that depended on it. When you are done, download the bracket as a PNG image to print, post in a group chat or put on a screen. Nothing is stored online and no account is needed.

For casual events with no ranking, Random draw shuffles the entrants with your browser’s cryptographically secure random generator before seeding.

Formula Used by Tournament Bracket Generator

Bracket size and byes

Slots = next power of 2 ≥ entrants · byes = slots − entrants · rounds = log₂(slots)

Worked example

10 teams.

  1. Next power of two: 16
  2. Byes: 16 − 10 = 6, to seeds 1–6
  3. Rounds: log₂16 = 4

Result: Four rounds; 9 matches are played in total (always one fewer than the number of entrants).

Standard First-Round Pairings

Bracket sizeFirst-round matchups (top to bottom)
41–4, 2–3
81–8, 4–5, 2–7, 3–6

How to Read Your Result

Why seeding matters

Without seeding, the two best entrants could meet in the first round and one of them would be out early, making the final less competitive. Standard seeding rewards the higher seeds with the easiest path, and in a perfectly predictable tournament the top seeds would reach the semifinals.

How many games to schedule

A single-elimination bracket always has exactly one fewer match than entrants, because every match eliminates one entrant and all but the champion must be eliminated. Plan time slots and courts from that number.

Limitations & Accuracy Notes

  • Single elimination only; double-elimination and round-robin formats are not generated.
  • Results are kept only while the page is open — download the image to keep a copy.
  • Up to 64 entrants.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a tournament bracket?
Type the teams or players one per line, best seed first, and press Create seeded bracket — or Random draw to shuffle them. Click the winner of each match to move them into the next round, all the way to the champion.
How does bracket seeding work?
Seeds are placed so the strongest entrants meet as late as possible: in an 8-team bracket, 1 plays 8, 4 plays 5, 2 plays 7 and 3 plays 6, and seeds 1 and 2 can only meet in the final. The same pattern extends to 16, 32 and 64.
How do byes work?
A bracket needs a power of two slots — 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64. With 10 teams you get a 16-slot bracket and 6 byes, which go to the top 6 seeds so they advance to round two automatically.
Can I randomize the bracket?
Yes. Random draw shuffles the order with your browser’s secure random generator before seeding, which suits casual games, office pools and events where there is no ranking.
Can I print or share the bracket?
Download PNG saves an image of the bracket with current results, ready to print, post in a group chat or put on a slide. Nothing is uploaded or stored online.
Does it support double elimination or round robin?
Not yet — this generator makes single-elimination brackets, where one loss knocks an entrant out. It is the format used for most playoffs, office pools and quick tournaments.
